UK High Commissioner to Rwanda Visits the Rwanda Peace Academy

The United Kingdom (UK) High Commissioner to Rwanda, H.E Joanne Lomas, today Monday 19 March 2018, visited the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA). She was accompanied by the UK Defence Adviser to Rwanda, Lt Col. Matthew Edwards. The visiting delegation was joined at the RPA by Major Tom H Foulkes – Arnold from the British Peace Support Team in Nairobi, Kenya. The purpose of their visit was to acquaint themselves with the mission, programmes and activities of the RPA and in particular, integrated peace support operations (PSO) training delivered at the RPA.
They were received by Colonel Jill Rutaremara, the Director of the RPA, who briefed them on the rationale for establishment of the RPA, the mission and objectives of the RPA, its programmes and activities, as well as its achievements thus far. The delegation also attended one of the syndicate discussions as part of the ongoing UK - funded Integrated Mission Planning Course before touring the RPA facility.
The UK and in particular the BPST –A funds regional courses at the RPA namely: Stabilisation and Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Course; Protection of Civilians (PoC) Course; PSO Logistics Course; Genocide, Mass Atrocity Crimes and Transitional Justice in PSO Course; Sexual and Gender Based Violence Course and Integrated Mission Planning Course.
H.E Joanne Lomas took up her new appointment as the High Commissioner in January 2018.
