The “Training of Trainers (ToT) Course on Civilian Protection and the Responsibility to Protect (R2P)” started today Monday, 3 September 2018 at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA). It will run up to 6 September 2018 and is organized with the Rwanda Peace Academy and the New York based Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect.

 The course will be attended by a total of sixteen military officers from five African countries namely: Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia.

The training is aimed at improving strategic and tactical response of the UN Peacekeepers within missions with a Protection of Civilians (POC) mandate. Through an exchange-oriented and interactive format, the ToT will provide participants with practical guidance on risk factors of mass atrocity crimes, as well as operational and tactical strategies to improve the protection of civilians from mass atrocity crimes in the context of peacekeeping.
