The “Training of Trainers course on Prevention of Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers” started today Monday, 29 October 2018 at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) training facility in Musanze. It will run up to 9 November 2018 and is jointly organized by the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Romeo Dallaire Child Soldiers initiative.

A total of 13 RDF officers will attend the course. The officers were selected from 47 RDF officers who attended the “Prevention of Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers Basic Course”.

The objective of the course is to familiarise participants with a better understanding of the concept of child soldiering, analyse the reasons behind the use of children in armed conflicts, while at the same time equipping them with the right training methodology.  The officers are expected to train the RDF personnel particularly the potential peacekeepers on pre-deployment training.

The Rwanda Defence Force and the Romeo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning a training partnership on combating the recruitment and use of child soldiers in May 2016.
