Regional Conference on Rwanda’s Journey Towards Sustainable Peace – 25 Years Opens in Kigali

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Albert Murasira, opened the Conference officially.

The regional conference entitled, “Rwanda’s Journey Towards Sustainable Peace – 25 Years” Started today Thursday 19 September 2019 at the Kigali Serena hotel and will run up to 20 September 2019. The conference is organized in Partnership between the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA), the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

It was officially opened by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Albert Murasira. The purpose of the conference is to evaluate the progress that has been made since the end of 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, to identify the challenges to the ongoing socio-economic and political transformation in Rwanda, and to come up with strategies to propel the country to sustainable peace.

 The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Japan to Rwanda, H.E. Takayuki Miyashita and the UNDP Resident Representative for Rwanda, Mr. Stephen Rodriques. They were received by Colonel Jill Rutaremara, the Director of the RPA.

About 80 participants from 9 African countries, namely; Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe are attending the conference. The majority of participants from outside Rwanda are from peacekeeping training and research institutions that are engaged in similar business with the Rwanda Peace Academy.
