UN Military Experts on Mission Course Opens at the Rwanda Peace Academy

The United Nations Military Experts on Mission (UNMEoM) Course started on Monday, 4 November 2019 at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) training facility in Musanze and will run up to 21 November 2019.  The course was funded by the Government of Sweden and is organized in partnership between the Rwanda Peace Academy, the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) and the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO).

It was officially opened by the Joint Chief of Staff at the Eastern Africa Standby Force Planning Element, Maj Gen Charles Rudakubana, on behalf of the EASF Director.

The objective of the course is to prepare and equip officers with relevant knowledge and skills to enable them serve as military observers, military liaison officers and military advisers at any United Nations peacekeeping mission and particularly for the current United Nations (UN) operations.

The Nordic Advisory and Coordination Staff (NACS) Executive Secretary, Ms Terry Obadha and a team of facilitators from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) were present at the opening ceremony.

A total of 26 military personnel from Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and the Eastern Africa Standby Force are attending the course.
