Twenty five high-ranking military officers (Maj Gen – Lt Gen) of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) are currently attending the Senior Leadership Post- ConflictPeacebuilding and Reconstruction Course at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) training facility.
The course is organized in partnership between the RPA, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) as well as the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC).
It was officially opened by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Albert Murasira. The aim of this course is to bring understanding between the Senior Officers with a view to building and nurturing synergy, cohesion and national unity in support of the military unification process of the South Sudan Military Forces by using the Rwanda success model. In addition the course participants will learn from Rwanda’s experience and also draw lessons of practical testimonies of Rwanda’s liberation and national transformation journey. This will be done through sharing of experiences with some government officials and high-ranking military officers through discussions and study visits.
Present at the opening ceremony was the Minister of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan, Honourable Angelina Jany Teny, the representative of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, Maj Gen Jack Nziza and the representative of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research who is also the Lead facilitator, Brig Gen (Rtd) Ahamed Mohammed. They were received by Colonel (Rtd) Jill Rutaremara, the Director of the Rwanda Peace Academy.
The one-week course will end on 7 May 2021.
